Unnatural Beauty

Sometimes I sense some discomfort in the peaceful everyday. There is an uncanny feeling about this world in which order is always restored after disturbance. One feels the presence of an enormous system, and you become aware that this is in fact but one part of the natural world itself, regardless of how much the concrete walls around us may obscure our sight. However, sometimes, we catch glimpses of unnatural scenes when the system suddenly breaks at the seams, and these glimpses seem to tell us, "Humans are the most removed existence from nature." Yet, it remains unclear whether that is at all good or bad.

Mankichi Shinshi

Born in 1984. Around 2013, he began self-teaching photography and now takes snapshots of various public places, mainly in Asia. He is searching for a way to confront the scenes that everyone sees, in other words, the society itself, from a personal perspective. He releases the shutter when he senses something, gives it a name, and edits it into his project. By such compilation, he hopes to affirm his life and the surrounding world gradually in parts.

Jury selection

Everything had good balance: the subject selection, the picture timing, and the relationship between the selected pictures.
