Plastic wings

Plastic wings are taken from the ancient Greek myth "Dedalus and Icarus", which is an investigation of the self-positioning of individuals in history. For a period of time after COVID-19, I re-entered the shopping mall in Shanghai and then saw many man-made landscapes. All kinds of complex and contradictory feelings merge together justl ike the wings of Icarus.In this process , the line between reality and illusion began to vague, and the pictures which as time sections began to overlap, Only leaving the emotions that hovered in the labyrinth of structure.

Shi Yan

Shi Yan (1998) graduated from Fudan university and majored in Philosophy.His inspiration comes from things that are too routine in this society and he makes images to explore the extensiveness and distinctiveness of individual experience in the public spheres.

The wings of Icarus: themed upon the myth which remonstrates the overconfidence for human technology, the work drives our attention towards the technology surrounding us through a clear visualization using symbolic elements. With a solid composition, it is suggestive enough yet not too descriptive, allowing a sufficient margin for the audience to think for themselves.
