Locked Down & In Love
When the Pandemic hit, my brothers’ and their girlfriends, Will (25) and Carlotta (25), as well as Frankie (23) and Maya (20), settled in Sussex, England. In this space where we were away from the anxieties of the outside world, I documented their freshly formed relationships.
I worked into the photos using darkroom light paintings. I found these spontaneous flashes of colour summed up our experiences during that summer. The golden tones were a representation of the safe world we had created. Sometimes this was shattered by a loss of a loved one or unemployment.
Lily Vetch is a filmmaker and photographer based in London. She has shot and directed for brands and publications including i-D Magazine, Hero Magazine, L’Oreal, Khiel’s, Sony, Rahemur Rahman, Jameela Jamil, Elle India, The Uyghur Tribunal and the TATE Museum. Lily works within analogue and digital processes across the specialisms of portraiture, documentary and fashion. Her continuous line of investigation is challenging people's stigmatizations around sexuality and gender.
I like the experimental character of the work, and think the subject matter and the way she portrays them is sympathetic.
