To Hold This Mystery
"To Hold This Mystery" is a photographic series examining the natural world in an enigmatic light to suggest there is more to our surrounding environment than meets the eye. Highlighting sometimes overlooked and underappreciated occurrences, this project reveals how the mystical qualities of life do not only exist in pristine wilderness or grand landscapes but can be found everywhere. I think of the camera as an emotional link to nature, one that attempts to bridge the limits of human language with the natural world.
Tommy Keith (b. 1993) is a photographer from Huntsville, Ontario. His work ranges from family portraits to investigations of small-town life; from unpacking his personal history of being conceived through a sperm donation clinic to nighttime pictures of nature – all focused on visualizing the hidden and mysterious qualities of life. He received a BFA from Concordia University and an MFA in Photography from Columbia College Chicago.
There is something slightly spooky and uncanny in this work that I like very much. The way he uses color enhances the mystery of the images.
