MEMORIES

SHORT LIST

Statement

Em Viagem / In Voyage

There is no memorial archive inside my brain. No gallery of sentient inside the cranial walls of my individualized frame. My mind does not accumulate the pieces I have seen. Instead, as I move through space and time my mind leaves itself in the wake of me, as if planting a tree - each experience engendering a small seed. As I think back, I really go there again, traveling through my roots until the day I go away.

Profile

J CUB

J Cub was born out of Suburbia, USA in 1997. After adolescence, he fled to the Netherlands to study for 4 years in disquiet. Upon prematurely ending his studies with the onset of a global pandemic, he drifted to Porto, Portugal where he currently resides as a creative partner of a small, quaint farm.

Jury selection

Judged by Tim Barber:

Inspired by the Grand Prix, Takahashi Miki’s work, I thought it would be fun and interesting to make a compilation of the widely diverse and eclectic work submitted for this contest. When edited and organized, the “memory” submissions, sent in from dozens of artists, become a kind of collective-memory-collage, a dream sequence of disparate clues from a kaleidoscopic narrative.

* This work was included in a curated collection of works selected by the judge Tim Barber from a number of submitted works. See the collection
